About Us

A nonpartisan effort to make government more representative and accessible.

Virginians for Civic Engagement is a statewide organization committed to advancing civic participation through advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels with youth representation and accessibility at the center.

Our Mission

We strengthen civic participation across the Commonwealth of Virginia by advocating at every level of government for accessibility, and civic participation. We advocate for policies that promote student representatives on school boards, youth representatives on local governments, and government accessibility. Above all, we work to ensure that all Virginians are represented, and empowered with the tools they need to engage and understand their government.

Our Vision

A Commonwealth where every person has a clear pathway into public service, and every locality has a structure to listen, learn from, and act with the next generation of Virginians in mind.

Why youth civic engagement matters

Decisions made today on schools, transit, housing, and climate shape young Virginians' futures the most.

Local boards and commissions are training grounds for the next generation of civic leaders.

Representation builds trust between government and the communities it serves.

Young people bring fresh perspective, lived experience, and energy to public problem-solving.

We welcome students, families, educators, and local leaders.
